Papers of Stencil Printing

These are the kinds of papers you’ll only ever encounter at RETRO印刷JAM.

The exact same ink can show completely different color vividness, depth, and texture depending on the paper stock you pair it with!

Each paper brings its own unique personality and character—a distinct variety of fun, expressive stocks to experiment with.

RISOGRAPH duplicators struggle with papers that have smooth, coated surfaces.

RISOGRAPH printing relies on paper absorbing liquid ink, making coated or glossy stocks unsuitable.

At JAM, we scour Japan for character-rich, textured papers. Once a stock passes our print tests, it joins our lineup! Since many are non-standard papers, you'll encounter rough surfaces, visible fibers, and minor batch variations in color and thickness.

They may have strong personalities, but these one-of-a-kind stocks offer textures you won't find anywhere else. Mix, match, and play around with our ink combinations!

Lightweight Papers

Ideal for flyers, wrapping paper, and book interior pages—also great for crafting memo pads or custom envelopes.

Medium-Weight Stocks (known as " 中厚紙 " in Japan)

Options like Fuji-Wara Paper (富士わら紙), Sucre Paper (スクレ), Kernel Paper (カーネル), and Chai Paper (チャイ) offer a bit more substance. These versatile stocks work well for posters, flyers, book interiors, and covers alike. Compared to standard lightweight paper, they are highly recommended for designs featuring heavier ink coverage.

Heavyweight Papers

Ideal for postcards, business cards, store cards, and various card products.

Please note that folding services are not available for any heavyweight paper options.
